Every year tourists from the UK flee the country to relax on foreign beaches. Yet their choices of holiday destinations have changed over time. Turkey, Tunisia, and Egypt used to be among the most popular destinations. However, the unrest in the Middle Eastern and North African destinations over the past few years made that they were largely being ignored.
Our and GfK’s data showed that this year the situation has changed, as the risk of terrorism has decreased. Though their full potential has not yet been reached, tourists are heading back to their favourite holiday destinations.
This also means that other destinations are losing share; the more traditional safe destinations Spain and Portugal saw their visitor numbers decrease.
